General Project Details - Schaeffer Auditorium Renovation & Expansion

There are two parts to the project. 1) The renovations, adaptations and updating to the original building and 2) the 14,000 square foot expansion/new build.

Part 1: Original building - new and updated features.

Listed below are some of the new features that the original building will have:

Auditorium seating (approx. 810 capacity) with new sightlines
Stage lighting, sound, and rigging system
Stage floor
Increased number of women's restrooms on main floor
Second box office window
Directional and advertising signage
2 music classrooms and storage (ground floor)
2 large dressing rooms (ground floor)
Music department library, instrument lockers and storage (ground floor)
Pre-event reception space (ground floor)
Men's and women's restrooms (ground floor)
Green room (ground floor)
Office space for KU Presents! (second floor)

Listed below are some of the updated features that the original building will have:

Lobby lighting
ADA parking and assistance in theater
Men's restroom (main floor)
Heating and cool systems
Plumbing
Restrooms
Information and technology systems
Other infrastructure

Part 2: Expansion

The new 14,000 square foot includes:

Connecting corridor from lobby to backstage and new spaces
Elevator connecting all levels
Loading dock
Production storage
Freight elevator
90-seat "smart" classroom
Large (1200 square foot) rehearsal hall
Small gallery display in connecting glass stairway

A beautiful new platz with water element will provide an outdoor connection between Schaeffer Auditorium and Sharadin Arts Building.
